War
Child is looking for an exceptional intern to join our London head office. The
Communications Officer will report to the Policy and Advocacy Officer, and will
support the other teams across a variety of projects and their ad hoc needs.
S/he will work with colleagues across the campaigns, fundraising and programmes
teams.
If
you have excellent communication skills, a proactive and positive attitude, and
the ability to contribute creatively to help increase public engagement with this
small, dynamic charity and the issues we work on, then we would like to hear
from you.
THE
SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL
•
Create compelling, accessible web copy and feature articles for War Child’s
website. This is likely to include gathering information from other teams,
adapting existing text, and sourcing images.
•
Have a keen interest in social networking and act as point person for compiling
content across social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook. This will
also include tracking any activity across these sites that is relevant to War
Child’s work, and updating the related teams.
•
Contribute towards the drafting and editing of the Annual Report, including
coordinating content and creating copy.
•
Support and update all teams by acting as the point person for internal
communications, such as sending out weekly news bulletins.
•
Coordinate the development of communications material, such as leaflets,
information sheets, flyers and brochures.
•
Carry out desk research projects for the other teams, including advocacy,
fundraising and programmes.
•
Be the first point of contact with relevant external agencies such as
designers, printers and research agencies, as well as maintain relationships
with and source new pro bono creative contributors.
•
Compile and log case studies from the field and adapt these for a variety of
audiences.
•
Select statistics from research reports (on the basis of the research
methodology used) and use them creatively for a variety of needs (e.g. funding
proposals, content for schools visits and fundraising events).
•
Be flexible to evolving priorities and support other projects as they arise.
WORKING
ARRANGEMENTS
The
position requires a minimum of 3-4 days a week for 6 months. The role is based
in War Child's offices in Kentish Town, London. This is an unpaid voluntary
position, with a lunch allowance of £4 and your travel costs (within Zone 1-6
in London) reimbursed per working day.

invaluable insight into working in the charity sector. S/he will benefit from
experience working in a busy international organisation, liaising with
different teams and coordinating internal and some external communications and
